Wood Bats for High School Players
Nowadays, it just makes more sense to buy a wooden bat for high school players. Recent changes in the bat industry are requiring manufacturers to make BBCOR bats (and all bats) perform like wooden bats, so why not just use the real thing? For one, there's no more satisfying sound in baseball than the crack of the bat, and if you hit the ball out of the ball park with a wooden bat, there's no wondering if you really have the power you think you have. Big Lumber bats are solid, one-piece wooden bats made to the standards required at all levels of baseball, all the way through high school, college, the minor leagues and the pros.

BIG BARREL BATS: 2-5/8" or 2-1/2" barrel diameter.
Big Barrel wood bats provide you with the largest sweet spot while they also give you more pop when you make contact. Big barrel bats also tend to be a little heavier toward the end of the bat, but we do have options of mid-balanced, slightly end-heavy and end-heavy wood bats for high school players. For those of you who are new to using a wood bat, big barrel bats may be a little more difficult to control. In other words, while you will likely gain some pop with the big barrel bat, you may also sacrifice some bat control for contact hitting. If you've been using an end-heavy, BBCOR aluminum bat, Big Lumber's big barrel bats should suit your swing just fine - and the crack of the bat sounds way better, too. |

SKINNY BARREL BATS: 2-1/4" or 2-3/8' barrel diameter.
Our skinny (or "skininier") barrel bats still provide plenty of pop, but they're generally better for bat control through the strike zone and, therefore, better for contact hitters. If you're the leadoff guy and your job is to get on with a single, steal second, the come around to score on a base hit, you may want to stick to our skinny barrel bats. The skinny barrel wood bats naturally provide more balance throughout the weight of the bat which makes them especially good for players who are getting their first wood baseball bat. Helpful hint: our skinny barrel wood bats are also great for contact training, even if your game bat is a big barrel bat. Use the skinny barrel bat in batting practice to train for optimal contact, then switch to an equal-weight big barrel bat for game time. Either way, don't let the skinny barrel fool you - there's plenty of pop along with an endless supply of hits in that barrel for you. |

The good news for you is that you can't go wrong: all of our bats are made to professional baseball standards regardless of the barrel size, and they're all made from the densest, rock-solid maple wood available. Also, you know your swing better than anyone, so check out all the barrels and especially the weight balance from bat to bat. If you're a contact hitter who gets on base and uses speed, try out the skinny (or skinnier) barrel wood bats. Or, if you're a contact hitter trying to add a little more pop without compromising swing control, try a big-barrel, 2-5/8-inch diameter barrel, but maybe try the mid-balanced big barrel bat. Check out all the high school wood bats we have available and pick the one you like best. Pick the handle and barrel color, too, and go out there and crush the baseball with your Big Lumber. |
